SOPHOMORE (2006-07): Led the team in the 500-free (5:03.69), 1650-free (17:19.75), 200-back (2:03.45) and 400-IM (4:24.60)... posted the second-fastest individual times in the 100-back (59.43) and 200-IM (2:06.81)... tallied 11 event wins on the season... crowned the Individual Champion in the 400-IM at the MWC Championship with the conference's season-best time of 4:24.60... became the first TCU women's swimmer to win an event at the MWC Championship... named All-MWC in the 400-IM and 200-back events... led the team with 23 top-three finishes... reeled off nine victories over the last six meets of the season... posted three multi-event victories... won three events against Northern Arizona... member of the fastest 400-free relay (3:28.40) and 800-free relay (7:33.29) teams... named the TCU Female Athlete of the Week on Dec. 17, after posting five top-five finishes at the UNLV Invite... also named the TCU Female Scholar Athlete of the month for December. FRESHMAN (2005-06) - Posted the team's second-best times in the 1000-free and 400-IM...won the 1000-free event at Air Force (10:26.42)... earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honors for the 400-IM...recipient of the team's Freshman of the Year and Academic Awards. High School - Holds 11 different high school records... served as team captain during her final season at Wykeham Collegiate... earned varsity monograms in water polo. Personal - Cheryl Townsend is the daughter of Ted and Rita Townsend... represented South Africa in the 200- and 400-freestyle, 100-back, 200-medley relay and 400-free relay... mother represented Zimbabwe in backstroke, father represented Zimbabwe and South Africa in water polo... brother, Darian, swims at Florida and won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics, setting a world record in the 400-free relay.
